How my tech journey started

It all started in late 2014 when i got admission into the Federal College of Education Technical Asaba Delta State Nigeria to pursue a diploma certificate called the Nigerian Certificate in Education(N.C.E).

I was admitted to study Computer Science/Mathematics education. Prior to this time, I had no initial knowledge of programming whatsoever and so have no idea of what I will be expecting. fast forward into the program we were taught different programming languages like Basic, Pascal, C, C#, C++, JAVA and Python. at this time I had no idea what the lecturers were talking about because everything seems abstract and complicated. I had only managed to understand some concepts like variables, data types, data structures, algorithms, flow-chart, pseudocodes e.t.c. wait, did I just say understand? I actually crammed the concepts just so I could pass my exams and move to the next level.

The irony of it all was, throughout the 3 years of study, we never did any form of practical pertaining programming. we literally did not know what an IDE or code editor was, we only had the definitions in a book. 2017 I graduated and left the school without any form of technical knowledge or experience and so did not know where to apply everything I have been taught and that was the end of it. I moved on with my life to become a mathematics teacher since that was the only thing I could get hold of after my studies.

Now the interesting part of all this was that I had believed there is money on the internet. I always thought that whenever I visit a website my data subscription is been converted to real money and the owners of those websites are making money off my data. lol, funny me, right? I know, but that was my thought then. At this point, i became inquisitive. I began to look out for information on how to create something that will be online, where people can visit and spend little time so I can earn money off their data subscription. Luckily I came across google Blogspot and I started my own blog with no knowledge of what domain is or how the internet works but I continuously posted some educational and political content until I got approved for google adSnse account which was eventually disabled because of a copyright violation at this point I gave up because I didn't know what else to do.

fast forward to 2020 during covid-19 pandemic, I stumbled upon a "How to code" video on youtube that caught my attention, this was like a turning point for me, I started learning how to code starting with HTML and CSS. after sometimes, I was going on and off because I lack the motivation and derive to continue and so I eventually stopped learning. In 2021, I got to meet a friend who happen to be a web developer and everything changed because I now have a mentor, motivator and who I can always run to when I am facing challenges or any form of difficulty and since then I have been growing stronger on this tech space till date. I'm happy to say I am currently at the stage where I am looking for Frontend Internship/ entry-level / Junior role. my current tech stacks: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Reactjs, PHP, MYSQL. I'm currently learning Nodejs, Express and MongoDB.
